Using The CAE Product Finder

The 'Product Finder' lets you search our database for the products in which you are most interested. There are a number of ways in which you can use this feature:

tip If you know the Product ID of the item you are interested in, then type this into the search box and click 'Go'. If the product is found, its details will be displayed. A successful search on an exact Product ID will always return its result the most promptly.

tip If you know only part of the Product ID, or perhaps wish to find all products whose ID begins with a certain value - for instance 'everything beginning with "704." - then type in just this partial value, make sure the Full Search box is not checked, and click 'Go' to find all matching products.

tip If, rather than searching on Product ID you wish to search for some part of a description, or 'key word', then you can do so. For instance, typing 'Cartman' in and clicking 'Go' will find any product where 'Cartman' appears in the product description. This will work more quickly if the Full Search box is not checked. (The reason for this is described in the next tip.)

tip If you check the Full Search box before performing your search, then the Product Finder will look for a match not only in the product descriptions, but also in the descriptions of Super Category, Category and Sub Category. Therefore, with Full Search checked, you could for example type 'keyring'; this would find not only products whose description contained that word, but also any products belonging to a Super Category, Category or Sub Category that had 'keyring' in its description.

This is the most extensive type of product search, but will also take longer due to the extra levels through which it has to go.

tip Some general points to note when searching:
  • The search will not be case-sensitive (so 'CARTMAN' and 'cartman' will return the same result.)

  • Searches will attempt to match the entire string you enter, so for instance typing 'Air Freshener' will look for those two words appearing together anywhere in a description, rather than either word by itself.

  • To cut down the response time, and also make the results more readable, search results will be displayed in groups of 10 per-page, with navigation to allow you to step to through the results pages.
